Keep Connected | Virtual Match 'Outing' Ideas

With the executive stay-at-home order in place, we understand it can feel hard to stay connected. But we encourage everyone to abide by it to stay safe and healthy. To help make the transition to virtual hang outs easier, we compiled a fun list of ideas and activities for you and your Little to enjoy. Although, let's be honest its great for friends and family too!

Below are ideas for “virtual match outings” and other ways you can stay in touch. Use these ideas to foster great conversation, learning, and lots of laughter. 

Fun General Activities
  • Lunch Break Doodles from Mo Williams at the Kennedy Center
  • Watch Movies & Shows Together - Learn how to Use Netflix Party 
  • Create Something Together! - Take some inspiration from Berklee and create something together, whether it’s a read aloud, playing instruments, origami, the lunch doodles from above, etc.! Then send it our way or tag @BeaBIgVA

Play Online Game Together Played together using a browser:
  • Battleship Online
  • Speed Sudoku
  • Cube Slam aka Virtual air hockey
  • Karaoke!
  • Virtual Game Night with your Little - For kids over 13, guardian must sign up
  • ​Play Games on Playstation - Even if you don’t own the device. Please be mindful of age appropriateness and content!

Travel together! Take the following tours:
  • Newport News Works of Art Take a guided tour of the major works of art installed by Newport News Works of Art at Newport News Public Art Foundation. You can even download the free audio tour mobile app to get a personal tour with the artists as your guide.
  • Mariners Museum - Participate in online events and read blog posts related to maritime history, artifact conservation, and more
  • Virginia Living Museum Online Natural Education - The Museum doors may be closed, we are vitually open and offering  NATURAL EDUCATION Virtual Learning all day long, with new content daily on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,  Tik Tok and on our many expert blogs. The next best thing to visiting!
  • Take a tour of Buckingham Palace - London, England
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium - Monterey Bay, California

Update 4.27 | Food Access in Newport News -  Starting Tuesday, Newport News Public Schools will start offering to-go dinners three days a week thanks to a partnership with World Central Kitchen. 

Hampton:

Henrico Schools How to Help – Want to Help? The HCPS Department of Family and Community Engagement, along with the Department of Equity, Diversity and Opportunities, are joining forces to accept donations for Henrico families in need. Donations will serve students and families as supplemental food and supplies on weekends during the HCPS closure period for coronavirus.
 
Mobile Hubs – Mobile Hubs will be stations at four HCPS schools to act as mobile technology hubs for students and school division staff
