This time of year reminds us how every connection – every Big, every Little, every supporter – comes together to form something extraordinary. Something greater than any one of us could accomplish individually. All that we’ve achieved this year makes it clearly: each of us is a piece of The Big Picture, and together we’re creating a bigger, brighter future for young people across our community.

The perfect fit

Our Match of the Year, Igor and Barhn, remind us of what happens when two puzzle pieces fit just right. Their connection becomes part of something bigger. Barhn was a quiet and shy 6th grader when he first met Igor in 2019. While English was his least favorite subject, he found joy in baking, boxing and wearing stylish bow ties. His mom, Farrah, hoped Barhn would “find his voice” through a match with a Big. Igor, an attorney who came to the U.S. from Moldova as a child, was inspired by the role models in his own life and hoped to help a Little grow, especially academically. During one of their first outings, Igor learned that Barhn was too shy to order a meal for himself and now has the confidence to chase impressive achievements like:

…all while serving as a Director with the YMCA and being a student at Clark Atlanta University.

The Missing piece

Barhn’s story is one of over 220 we have supported this year. We have cut wait times for children by 82% and launched new programs that reach even more youth. Each success adds another piece to The Big Picture we’re building – one child, one moment, one match at a time.

But the picture isn’t complete yet. Many children are still waiting for a Big. Your year-end gift helps us fill in the missing pieces, connecting more Littles to Bigs who can empower them to pursue their own Big Picture.
