Escape (aka Bowl) For Kids' Sake FAQs

You've got questions - we've got answers!

What IS Escape (aka Bowl) for Kids' Sake?

For 2021, Bowl for Kids' Sake will become Escape for Kids' Sake, a high-energy, virtual escape room experience. Teams of 5 will raise money throughout the months of February and March to support Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission. Once you reach (and hopefully exceed) the team threshold, you and your team will be eligible to participate in the virtual event. The more you raise, the more the benefits grow. To participate, you simple need to register your Team and get started on your fundraising.

Escape is the perfect way for individuals and companies to have fun while also having a BIG impact on our community.

What Will the Timeline Look Like for the Day of the Event?

Just like Bowl for Kids' Sake, every team will choose a timeslot when registering.  Timeslots will run every hour on the hour, but will last 1.5 hours so you have enough time to go through the 60-minute escape room challenge and have time for plenty of spirit and social interaction with other members of your community.

How do I register for BFKS?

Registering online is easy! Click on your location above and you will be directed to the registration site. Once on the registration site, click "Register a Team" on the right hand tool bar and it will work you through the steps. If you have any questions contact Danielle Cohen at dcohen@bigbrobigsis.com or (804) 261-4940 x113.

Do I need to personalize my donation page?

Yes! People who personalize their fundraising webpages and share why BBBS means so much to them typically raise more money than those who don't! Let's share with everyone the great work we do and how important it is to support the aspirations of our youth!

How do I schedule my team's Escape time?

You will be asked what time you would like to participate  in the virtual even during the registration process. If at any time this changes, please contact Danielle Cohen at dcohen@bigbrobigsis.com or (804) 261-4940 x113, but remember, time slots do fill up quickly!

Who should donors make their checks out to?

All checks can be made out to Big Brothers Big Sisters with "Escape for Kids' Sake 2021" in the memo line. They can be brought or mailed to the office.

I can't form a team of five, how else can I help?

You can still support EFKS though individual donations and sponsorships! Contact Danielle Cohen at dcohen@bigbrobigsis.com or (804) 261-4940 x113 for more information. Donations to BBBS can be made by clicking on the link below:

My Team Captain already registered my team, how do I join?

To join a Team that is already registered, just click "participate as an individual" on your location's site (see above location buttons) and type in the Team name that you would like to join. If you don't see your Team registered, double check with your Team Captain to make sure they have registered.

Any suggestions on how to fundraise?

Use social media: post often on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Ask for donations, let your friends know how far you are from hitting your goal and thank your donors publicly.

Ask about company matches: many companies will match an employee's contribution to a charity. Ask your HR director or supervisor if your company will make a donation to your Team or match your personal contribution.

Plan a small fundraiser: many Teams host fundraisers and invite their friends, family and coworkers. BBBS will share FUNdraising idea with Team Captains, so be sure to sign up today.

Create challenge opportunities: Due to the pandemic, so many are running/biking/hiking more.  Challenge your friends, family and co-workers to sponsor you for every mile you hike above your normal activity.  You get to raise money and stay healthy!

What if my Team doesn't reach the fundraising goal?

A great way to get started is to ask LOTS of friends for small donations each - anywhere from $10-15. If you are having trouble reaching your fundraising goal contact Danielle Cohen for help at dcohen@bigbrobigsis.com or (804) 261-4940 x113. Don't forget... the best way to get others to donate to you is making your sure you've made your gift first to show your commitment to BBBS' mission.

Why is the "Donate" search not finding a Bowler I know has registered?

You must type in the first or last name of the bowler exactly as registered. If you have a problem locating a bowler please contact Diane Brown at dbrown@bigbrobigsis.com or (804) 261-4940

Where does the money raised
at EFKS go?

100% of the money raised through BFKS stays in our community. We depend on the money raised at BFKS to carry out the work of carefully matching children with caring adult mentors and providing ongoing support to the child, volunteer mentor and the child's family. Check out the "About" section of our website for more information.
