Current Openings: Position Title: Big Brothers Big Sisters Military Mentoring Coordinator – VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator Position Description:Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond and Tri-Cities seeks new Military Mentoring Coordinator through the AmeriCorps VISTA program and the Virginia Mentoring Partnership for August 2013-August 2014. The main office is located in Richmond, VA and the Military Mentoring Coordinator will primarily serve Fort Lee and the surrounding Tri-Cities area. Applicant should be enthusiastic and a confident public speaker to expand the capacity of the site-based and community-based mentoring programs in the area. Applicant will work closely alongside the Big Brothers Big Sisters Tri-Cities Coordinator and will be expected to facilitate and lead recruitment events and the enrollment of volunteers/children, and will supervise, support, and manage a caseload consisting of mentor-mentee matches. The Military Mentoring Coordinator will be required to attend personal and professional development meetings through the Virginia Mentoring Partnership. The Military Mentoring Program will be one of 14 AmeriCorps VISTA members throughout different mentoring organizations in Virginia that will report to the Virginia Mentoring Partnership each month. Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree required; applicant should be enthusiastic, committed to the ethic of service and interested in serving in the Tri-Cities. Qualities sought include strong management and organizational skills; computer skills; communication and writing skills; ability to work with others from a diverse background; possessing self-initiative and past experience in volunteering and/or the nonprofit sector. Benefits from AmeriCorps VISTA service:The VISTA member is paid $11,352 annual stipend with a $5,500 education award or a $1,500 cash stipend of appreciation presented at the end of a year of service. The VISTA position is yearlong with a possibility of 2ndand 3rdyear extensions. All compensation is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Health care, child care, life insurance and some relocation expenses are all available as well as intensive training through CNCS (all expenses paid) and by the Virginia Mentoring Partnership. The target date for hiring is July 1, 2013. Required pre-service training, paid in full by CNCS, is scheduled for August 19ththrough August 22nd. Twelve month position runs from August 19, 2013 – August 14, 2014.
