Ways To Get Involved

Ways to Get Involved with

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond & Tri-Cities

  • Be Big!  By becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister you will broaden the horizons of a child.  The children we serve are energizing, responsive and promising.  They are full of possibilities and ready for new discoveries with a caring adult friend.  There are different ways to be a Big Brother or Big Sister.  We offer a Community Based Mentoring program, as well as a Site Based Mentoring program.  Visit our To Volunteer area  or call 804.261.4940 for the details.
  • Help us to spread the word of our important work:  On May 12, 2010, Big Brothers Big Sisters will be hosting our Little Moments Big Magic Breakfast at the Jefferson Hotel from 7:30 until 8:30 AM.  We are currently recruiting volunteers who will agree to host a table for this free, one-hour awareness and fundraising breakfast.  Table Hosts are asked to fill a table of 10 with guests who they believe would be inspired to either donate time or money in support of the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Guests at the Little Moments Big Magic Breakfast will hear the inspiring stories of lives forever improved by our agency.  Bigs, Littles, Parents and volunteer leaders will all be speaking, and a powerful video presentation will be shown.  Contact Traci Pryor at tpryor@bigbrobigsis.com to serve as a table host, or to reserve your seat.
  • Get others on board!  Help us to get your company, civic organization, church, school, etc. on board with helping Big Brothers Big Sisters.  We love to speak to groups about ways they can help out.  On-site recruitments are a wonderful way for us to recruit Big Brothers and Big Sisters, secure vital corporate and community partners, and increase our community’s awareness of what we are all about.  Contact Traci at tpryor@bigbrobigsis.com
  • Let’s Get Quackin’!:  On July 31st, BBBS will be holding is 21st Annual Duck Race.  This fun-filled family oriented event includes entertainment, the amazing drop of over 18,000 rubber ducks who will race through the water, and for the first time in 2010, a fun Duck Walk & Waddle.  You can support the event in a number of ways:  Form a team for the Duck Walk & Waddle, Volunteer the day of the Duck Race, Serve on the Duck Walk & Waddle Committee, Purchase ducks to compete for amazing prizes, help to sell Ducks during one of our many Duck Sale events this spring and summer.  Contact Mark at mbowen@bigbrobigsis.com for more details!
  • Bring some magic into the lives of our Littles and Bigs:  Big Brothers Big Sisters works to provide meaningful life experiences for our Little Brothers and Sisters.  We work with volunteers to help plan fun events for our Bigs and Littles to attend, such as our annual Holiday Party, Back to School Night, and Volunteer Appreciation night.  We also plan Bigs Night Out events, and other outings.  Volunteer to help coordinate these wonderful and essential get-togethers.  Contact Karen at kswansey@bigbrobigsis.com for more details.
  • Become a Financial Supporter:  Big Brothers Big Sisters is a donor supported program.  It costs approximately $1000 per match to make our work possible.  Donations to BBBS support recruitment, enrollment, ongoing match support as well as the day to day operations of our agency.  We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations to make our work a reality.  Questions about donating?  Contact Amy Figard at afigard@bigbrobigsis.com.   Donations are tax-deductible and can be sent directly to:

  • Volunteer on the Links for the Inaugural Keen Family & Friends Charity Golf Tournament!

The Keen Family & Friends Charity Golf Tournament, Inc. is hosting a golf tournament event at Hunting Hawk Golf Club in Glen Allen on Saturday, April 24th.  All proceeds from the event benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond & Tri-Cities.  This Golf Tournament/Awards Dinner combination begins at 12:30pm, followed by the Awards Dinner at 7:00pm.

You can volunteer to get a team together to play, bring sponsors to the event, or even volunteer the day of the event at registration, as a witness on the “hole-in-one” holes or even help to administer the golfing contests.  For further information on the event itself, visit www.kffcharitygolftournament.com.
