Our Mission:

Big Brothers Big Sisters will assist young people in reaching their full potential by matching them with a caring adult volunteer through a professionally supported One-To-One mentoring relationship and other selected programs.

Our Vision:

Successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to better schools, brighter futures and stronger communities for all.

Our History:

In Richmond, the Big Brothers program began with the help o fthe Richmond Jaycees in 1962. The Big Sisters program was added in 1976. Our Richmond office serves the Metro Richmond area. Our   Tri-Cities office, founded in 1989 in Petersburg, is now located in Hopewell. Virgnia is home to nine BBBS affiliated agencies, of which metro Richmond is the oldest.

Our Goal :

Our challenge is to take mentoring to scale. We estimate that within our service area there are about 36,000 at-risk Greater Richmond youth who could benefit from a mentoring relationship.

The Gold Standard Award

The Gold Stardard Award is given to recognize growth, children served and quality of service. In June of 2008 Big Brothers Big Sisters Services, Inc. will be recognized to receive The Gold Standard Award at the National convention in St. Louis.

April is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month

Governor Tim Kaine has issued by proclamation that April is Big Brothers Big Sisters month in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Services Receives the Pinnacle Award

Big Brothers Big Sisters Services has received the Big Brothers Big Sisters Pinnacle Award for top performance two years in a row, 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond & the Tri-Cities’ Board of Directors received the Robert M. Kommerstad Leadership Medal for 2008 Board of the Year for Mid Sized Agency.
